THE SOUND OF SILENCE

Yin Yoga is a School of Yoga that involves holding gentle postures for an extended period of time to help release tension on a physical and emotional plane. These postures are mostly seated, including forward folds and hips openers that help to release blockages trapped within us. This practice not only stretches the muscles but also allows you to get deep in to your bones, your blood, and your fascia. It is very relaxing and restorative, for anyone and everyone who is willing.

Reiki is a Japanese healing modality, usually performed through a gentle hands-on touch or just hands-near-the-body technique. The healer intuitively dials in to each individual’s unbalanced energy source and then transmutes it resulting in restoration of physical and emotional well-being. This technique pairs perfectly with Yin Yoga as it aids in a deeper healing and relaxation.

Crystal Singing Bowls are the third entity in this workshop. All seven of the bowls give off a different frequency that correlates directly to the seven energy bodies within us (the chakra system) just listening to them can help you achieve a meditative state of consciousness.

The Sound of Silence is intended to help you RELAX, to RELEASE, and to come out feeling like the load that you carry in your life is much lighter. It gives you the opportunity to tune out and turn off for some time so that you can come back to your life rejuvenated, more connected, with more vitality.

How can we make space for what we want to have happen in our lives?

The key is in the question: we have to make space for it, open to it, and be willing to take a look at what is in the way.

In this workshop, through stories, guided journaling, and discussion, we will begin by looking at what holds us back, and why we “want” it to be there. When something is holding us back (a fear, for example) it’s usually been welcomed in in order to help us in some way.

Oftentimes, its purpose is to “keep us safe.”
Looking at this fear or limit, without judgement, is the first step toward making space for it to leave, and welcoming something new — something you consciously chose, something that would serve you better in the here and now.

Talking about this can be good; often, we have been taught to keep quiet about these things.

But there’s also a way to move through things that avoids the mind, and that can happen with sound. Sound healing is powerful, but don’t discount the power of your own voice.
We have the power of healing, calibrated to our exact needs, in our own vocal chords.

Sometimes, chanting is just the technique to move us to the other side of some limitation. However, I have also had great success with this by getting clients to scream or yell!

It all depends on what’s in the space, and how safe you feel.
Therefore, we will build a safe space where anything can happen, without judgment, without blame, without wallowing in the awfulness of it.

And then, we will make space for what we want, what we consciously choose, what serves our highest good.
What do you want to have happen in your life? How can you make this be the year that you really land that wanting?

About the instructor:

Simran Kaur is a product of Yogi Bhajan’s 3HO experiment, and has been doing Kundalini Yoga from the very beginning. Her parents, SatJivan Kaur & Singh, run Kundalini Yoga East in New York City! Simran grew up in the ashrams of the ‘70s and went to India for boarding school with other children living the 3HO lifestyle! She has lived in Los Angeles with her husband, ‘Posture Master’ GuruPrem, since 1990, and raised two beautiful children. She continues to practice and teach locally and around the world, bringing lightness, joy, ease, and a smile to the yogic discipline. She has mastered many meditations, including Bound Lotus and Kirtan Kriya.

Guru Ram Das belonged to the house of Raj Yoga and he is the personal guru of Yogi Bhajan. It is through his lineage that Kundalini Yoga comes to us.

We will begin Guru Ram Das’ birthday celebration this Sunday, October 2nd, with 31 minutes of chanting Guru Ram Das with live music, followed by a potluck, from 5:00-7:00pm at the studio. 1214 28th St, San Diego, CA 92102.

On Thursday, October 6th at 5:00pm, we will have a Gurdwara (devotional service) at the ashram and begin the 72 hour reading of the Siri Guru Granth (Akhand Paath). 1238 Upas St, San Diego, CA 92103.

On Sunday, October 9th, we will have a special sadhana of 2 1/2 hrs. chanting Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru, from 4:00-6:30am, at the ashram. Many years ago, Yogi Bhajan gave us this special sadhana in honor of the birth of Guru Ram Das. We have been honoring this tradition for almost 40 years. We practice this Shabad to ignite the power of our prayer. To quote Yogi Bhajan, “Any move you make, you must pray because that ignites the power. Ignite the power and then go. Let God take care of it.” Guru Ram Das is the Lord of Miracles, so on this day, pray for your miracle!

And finally, we will wrap up our celebrations with another Gurdwara on Sunday, October 9th at 5:00pm, followed by Langar (vegetarian meal), at the ashram.

We welcome you to come read in our Akand Paath any time between Thursday evening and Sunday evening. This is an amazing opportunity to be submerged in the sacred Naad (sound current). The reading is both in English and Gurmukhi (sacred language of the Gurus). You don’t need to be a Sikh or have any special skills to participate. Just come with an attitude of reverence and a desire to serve your soul. If you’ve never read in the Akand Paath before, someone will help you get started. You can also come just to listen and be in the sacred energy.

There is always plenty of yummy food and lots of good company and opportunities for seva (service). Everyone is welcome, and all events in celebration of Guru Ram Das’ birthday are free (though donations are accepted).
